🦿 Captain Clubby's Health FAQ

For Friends, Family, and Concerned Bystanders Who Love Me But Don’t Know What to Ask

What surgery is Scott having?

Scott is undergoing a below-the-knee amputation (BKA) of his left leg due to chronic pain, gout complications, and vascular failure.

Why is this happening now?

Scott has dealt with this since birth. Born with a rigid clubfoot, he's had three surgeries, worsening gout, and vascular issues. Now, 2 of 3 arteries in his foot are blocked. This amputation is about regaining mobility, reducing pain, and taking back his life.

What can I expect after the surgery?

  • Hospital stay for several days
  • Recovery via rehab or at home with a wheelchair
  • Prosthetic fitting to follow
  • Goal: Return to work in 3–4 weeks (yes, he’s stubborn)

How can I help?

  • Emotional support: texts, jokes, memes, love
  • Practical support: rides, food, childcare
  • ZERO unsolicited advice. No oils. No Facebook cures.
  • Check on Nico and the kids too

Other health concerns?

  • Hashimoto’s Disease (thyroid disorder)
  • Gout
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Chronic fatigue from pain and stress

What’s his pain level like?

Imagine stepping on a Lego every day, then adding fire. He's in pain constantly, even with meds. The goal is to change that—maybe not erase it, but give him real relief.

Is this a sad time?

Yes—and also hopeful. This is the beginning of a better, freer life. It’s not the end. It’s the upgrade.

How can I stay updated?

Check in with Nico or visit the website for updates. There may be a blog or podcast coming soon—because Captain Clubby doesn’t go quiet.

What should I NOT say?

  • “At least it’s not your dominant leg!”
  • “My cousin lost a toe once, I get it.”
  • “Have you tried essential oils?”
  • Making this about yourself. Don’t.

Instead: Show up. Be kind. Bring snacks. Send memes.
